On March 17, 2023, Emily Clare Thompson will present a lecture to the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children. This year’s statewide conference is being called “The Dream Team, and Emily’s lecture is entitled, “Musicals with Character: Theater and Character Education for Gifted Youth.”

About the lecture: “Celebrate storytelling with original musicals! Musicals with Character creates youth-driven shows that provide a standards-based, interdisciplinary approach to theater. Meeting ELA and Visual Performing Arts requirements, MwC musicals maximize opportunities for differentiation. Learn how your students can showcase their talents while engaging in meaningful social and emotional learning.”
What is the NJAGC? “Passionate parents/educators/students volunteering advocacy, promoting programs, networks, & legislative actions to meet the needs of gifted learners statewide.” They are New Jersey’s “…only association dedicated to gifted education advocacy.” They seek to help parents, families, and educators understand and support gifted learners.
Various other lectures will happen throughout the day. Registration for the event is required. More details at https://njagc.org/conference-2023/
Emily prepared a short video (below) introducing the concepts to be explored, explaining how theater is “the perfect subject!”
